LA Two Step: (Application limited to 19 VAC/DC DB100 input voltage)

  • Eliminates the need for battery removal;
  • Eliminates the need for battery saving devices;
  • Eliminates the loss of setup conditions due to track shorts; and
  • Takes a two minute simple wiring change.

The orange and gray wires from the LA Adapter (LA-1) are the power supply for the "Loco Net". By changing these wires from the DB100 output (track power) terminals to the input terminals (power in) you accomplish the LA Two Step.

  1. Take the orange LA-1 wire and connect it to either transformer wire and insert, at either DB100 power in terminal.
  2. Take the gray LA-1 wire and connect to the other transformer wire and insert, to the remaining DB100 power in terminal. That's all!
  3. System Power Up Process is the same as stated in the Big Boy Manual.
  4. System Power Down Process As Follows:
  5. At the completion of operating, turn off Track Power switch on DB100.
  6. Leave all throttles plugged into the "Loco Net".
  7. Leave command station (DT200) as master unit.
  8. Do not turn off input power to DB100 (from transformer). This keeps the "Loco Net" powered up.
  9. Continuos DB100 and "Loco Net" Power Up Is Not Harmful To DB100 Or "Loco Net". This assumes that the transformer or DC Power Pack wiring practices are in accordance with the Big Boy Manual's instructions incorporating fuses and/or circuit breakers.
  10. Long Term Shutdown: If you are not operating your layout for extended periods, (less than several times weekly, vacations or off season), then a full system power down as per the Big Boy Manual is recommended.
  11. Throttle batteries should also be removed.

DB100 Cooling:

It is our experience, gained through operating and testing, that the DB100, running at a 2.5 AMP continuous load, will begin thermal cutoff in about twenty minutes. There is no cause for alarm for a 2.5 AMP continuous load translates into about 8-12 HO locos running simultaneously and continuously.

If you are running this type of load, then the installation of a small fan, directed at the DB100's cooling fins, will completely solve the problem.

DN93 For H.O.:

The DN93 Decoder was designed to fit most "N" scale diesels (.36 x 1.0 x .18). However, since it is rated continuously for 1 AMP, the DN93 is able to run many modern (can motor) H.O. Diesels. Its small size simplifies installation, especially in Atlas, Kato and Stewart locos where light rods and weights may need alteration. If you do not need the additional function outputs the DN93 is most practical for 1 AMP H.O. Diesel applications.

DH83 for Steam (H.O.):

Steam is special. Even the finest running, low draw, can motor, steam locos have the potential for drive train lock-up. A locked-up can motor, at full voltage, will easily exceed a 1 AMP draw. Yes, the decoders have thermal overload protection, but a current surge caused by a locked-up motor occurs instantaneously and may fry output transistors before thermal cut off. The 2 AMP DH83 is far more likely to survive a locked-up motor.

Throttle Holder:

If you are looking for an alternative to velcro to park your throttle (on your facia) ... try a small clear plastic business card holder available at most stationery/office supply stores. Submitted by Jim Ferguson, North Troy, VT.

On The Horizon:

The folks at Digitrax have been busy. Here is a brief look at what's coming soon. Formal announcement will follow.

  1. DT201, Command Station Throttle: The DT201 will replace the DT200 and is essentially the DT200 with a four digit loco address capability and enhanced software to improve whistle and bell response timing. For most users the DT201's new features are of no consequence. If you want these new features, a factory upgrade will be available for about $30.00.
  2. DT100, Advanced Throttle: The DT100 has all the features and performance of the DT201/DT200 except, the MST (Master Unit) function. Expect pricing to be somewhere between DT200 and BT2.
  3. UT1, Utility Throttle: If you like big knobs, then this throttle is for you. The UT1 will operate one loco, have a large knob for speed control, dial type rotary switch address selection, full function and loco acquire capabilities. The UT1 will be offered in kit and assembled versions, priced in the $60.00 / $90.00 range respectively.
  4. DCS100, Command Station Booster: The DCS100 will combine, in a stationary unit, a DT201 and a DB100 like booster. The main attraction will be the capability of simultaneous running of 100+ locos as compared to the 20+ for the Big Boy.
  5. The CHIEF DCC Set: The Big Boy's big brother! A DCS100 and a DT100 package, etc.
