GP40-2 Rework.
Preface: David King has proposed a solution for
the GP40-2 slowing down in curves. David Kling wrote:
I'm writing in regards to the Atlas GP40-2 slowing
down in curves. After much investigating I found out that it was
caused by poor electrical contact between the trucks and the thin
pickups mounted on the frames. When the trucks are turned one side
of the contact points on the trucks move toward the end of the thin
pickups resulting in poor connections.
To help correct this I bent the ends of the pickups
to curve slightly downward to increase the pressure near the ends.
I think Atlas should replace the pickups with thicker metal to solve
this problem as my solution may not last long due to metal fatigue.
Thanks for posting these problems on your web page.
It is a good way to insure the manufacturers continue to improve
their products.
Sincerely,
David Kling
