Lenz Decoders for Dirty Track?

Lenz Decoders

Lenz introduces USP technology to improve decoder performance on contaminated track.

This info was just released from Lenz:

Since the advent of using track power to control our model trains, the modeler has had to deal with the chore of track cleaning and poor electrical contact.

Lenz GmbH the leader in high performance DCC control is proud to announce USP, our latest technological advance in model railroad control technology. Using decoders with USP, the DCC signal can be received and the model operated even if you cover the track with plastic tape!

USP stands for Uninterruptible Signal Processing. This new technology allows us to read the DCC signal through a thin layer of dirt. Its 100% backward compatible with all DCC systems on the market because it uses the same DCC signal that NMRA DCC is based on.

Decoders with USP will be ideal for outdoor layouts and rolling stock that have DCC functions such as lighting, sound, or automatic couplers. It is also ideal for brass locomotives with their less than ideal track pickup, for the average home layout that is not operated every day or for layouts where the track must be cleaned before normal operation is possible.

We demonstrates DCC with USP in Nuremburg and hope to have our first products that will fully conform to the NMRA DCC specifications later in 2003.

USP is a trademark of Lenz GmbH. The USP technology has been submitted for patent protection in the US and Europe.
