FINALLY! Broadway UP Mountain Arrives!

After a looong wait (our first order was taken 16 months ago), BLI has released the UP 4-8-2 Mountain. As the loco is one of their Paragon Line, it has the high quality detailing one expects from Broadway Steam. And, of course, the QSI sound. The whistle sounds very similar to that of the PRR Mountain. Whether this is the prototype sound or not, we can’t say.

The loco has plenty of pulling power, as it comes from the factory with one set of drivers equipped with traction tires. It had some difficulty with our 22” radius 4% grades when operating at slower speeds, but ran fine at about half throttle. Like other BLI steam locos it has a five-pole skew-wound can motor, sprung drivers, and an operating front and rear coupler.

Should be a welcome addition to anyone's UP fleet.
