Lenz Gold Series Decoders Review

March 2005 Update

The LI-USB is now shipping to dealers. Note that on request of our dealers we are calling our two interfaces:

  • LI-USB for the interface with USB interface
  • LI-101F or LI101F-RS232 for the interface with an RS232 interface
  • LS120s are being discontinued and are out of stock

February 2005 Update

Our new gold decoders have a feature called Asymmetrical DCC.

In normal DCC the DCC signal is symmetrical with just as much positive voltage as negative voltage.

In asymmetrical DCC the DCC signal is offset. This provides the modeler the ability to provide the decoder a location specific command. Uses include stopping in front of a red signal, automatic back and forth operation and protecting crossings or turnouts.

To generate an asymmetrical signal you need 5 diodes. 4 diodes in one direction and 1 diode in the other direction. This device can easily be built by any modeler. This module is connected between the power and one rail and is direction sensitive.

For those that desire a pre built part we have released the Block Module 1. These modules are in stock but some shortages can be expected in the first few weeks of product release.

As announced earlier we are releasing a second computer interface. We will continue to market the LI101F with its RS-232 interface but will also market the LE101-USB with a USB interface. The LI101-USB will come with connecting cables and simple programming software.

We are now taking orders for the LI101-USB and expect to begin shipping to dealers by March 10.
