To Boost or Not To Boost.

SEE BOOSTER COMPARISON MATRIX

Many folks who call me assume that they need more power (boosters) than necessary or that they need a second booster for auto-reversing.

Contrary to most popular DCC makers recommendations (they want to sell you more boosters), our experience has shown the following run and power requirements. Table shows approximate number of locos (powered) per DCC booster.

Scale 5 Amp DCC booster 8 Amp DCC booster 10 Amp DCC booster Auto Rev
HO 10-15 16-20 20-30 (1) 5 Amp
N 15-20 20-30 (1) 30-40 (1) 5 Amp
S 3-6 6-12 10-20 8 Amp
O/G 1-3 2-6 5-10 8 Amp

This table assumes an average of loco draw. For auto reversing PSX auto reversing modules are very cost effective. Even if you require multiple boosters it is better to use reversers for small loops.

(1) Use only in conjunction with PSX.
