How to Improve BLI and Intermountain F7 Sounds

Here is a simple easy way to get more volume and quality from your Broadway Ltd or Intermountain F7 units:

The QSI spec for optimizing the F7's volume was apparently ignored by the factory. Sealing several areas as described below will significantly improve volume.

The F7 needs to be sealed in two places to improve sound quality.

  1. Use a heavy tape to cover the underside of all the fans. See photo.
  2. Also add a seal to the area right behind the speaker where the wires come up from the trucks (on both speakers if you have a B unit). Use a putty or the sticky gum material (Stik Tak) that you can buy at local paper supply places and press it in the hole. See photo.

Here is why:
Back wave sounds migrate and combine with the front wave sounds to degrade the overall sound.

This locomotive as well as all BLI, Atlas and Life-Like Walthers locomotives equipped with the popular QSI DC and DCC Sound Systems can have their performance significantly enhanced by utilizing the QSI Chip Upgrade.
